Animate It! is offered in conjunction with schools, community centers and institutions serving youth ages 7-18. Students gain hands-on experience with technology utilized by leading animation companies such as Portland’s own, LAIKA. Animate It! takes a variety of forms, from a day-long school takeover to a daily high school elective, adapting and changing to the needs of the site.
Animate It! brings imagination to life for students…
What was first offered as an after school workshop has evolved over the years into an elective art credit for students during normal school hours. Watch samples of completed projects here.
This weekly crash course in animation gives incarcerated youth an opportunity to work together to create stop motion shorts. Each participant plays director and animator during this 90 minute workshop. Watch samples of Animate It! projects here.
Middle school students at Sabin’s after school program SUN learn the art of stop motion animation through an eight week course. Students design sets and story lines for their props and characters to create an object-based animation. Watch samples of completed projects here.
In collaboration with PDX Pop Now!, we send animators into schools for direct animation workshops, in which youth draw on and etch patterns into film. The resulting piece is projected behind local bands as they perform at an assembly for the participating students.
