Before “Jaws”, Before “Poltergeist” even before “The Amityville Horror”, there was…”Something Evil” A very rare early Steven Spielberg film from 1972 presented on 16mm. This movie has never been available on home video.

An ad man (Darren McGavin “Kolchak: The Night Stalker”) and his wife (Sandy Dennis “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf”, “Parents”) and their two children move into a farm house in upstate New York. Gradually a demonic presence begins to terrorize the family and possess them. This showcases the young Spielberg’s immense talents as he makes great use of atmospheric lighting and creepy sound effects. “Something Evil” is certainly in the pantheon of made for TV horror movies from the early 70s that gave an entire generation nightmares along with “Trilogy of Terror” and the original “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark.”
