Writer and pop culture critic David F. Walker's informative and entertaining lecture explores how the image of black people in America has been shaped by images in mass media. Using film clips to examine the portrayal of African Americans in film and television, Walker's lecture digs deep into matters of representation and inclusion as he explains why Black Images Matter.

David F. Walker is an award-winning comic book writer, filmmaker, journalist, and educator. He was the lead film critic for Willamette Week for seven years, while simultaneously running the Longbaugh Film Festival. He currently works for Marvel Comics, teaches part time at Portland State University, and is working on a new book chronicling the history of black films of the 1970s.

The 2017 Portland Black Film Festival is made possible through the generous support of the Fred W. Fields Fund of the Oregon Community Foundation.
