Mississippi Records presents a 35mm print of Robert Altman's sprawling stream of consciousness take on the Nashville music scene as a microcosm of America itself. The film features an incredible cast including Karen Black (who also wrote two songs for the movie), David Arkin, Keith Carradine, Shelly Duvall, Jeff Goldblum, Lily Tomlin, and Elliott Gould. NASHVILLE is overflowing with micro and meta stories that perfectly encapsulate how complicated and strange America is. It's left vs. right, Hollywood's shallow culture industry vs. Nashville's shallow culture industry, the horror of being famous vs. the horror of being unknown, love vs. hate, life vs. death, and on and on... it's all in here. On top of being profound, NASHVILLE is also very funny.

If you have not seen this movie or have never seen it on the big screen, this is a rare opportunity to check that off your list.  We'll be projecting a 35mm print, the way it was meant to be seen. Claimed by many to be Altman's greatest film! It's like the film's concluding line says: "Now, if we don't -- we don't live peaceful, there's gonna be nothin' left in our graves except Clorox bottles and plastic fly swatters with red dots on 'em."

*The film will be preceded by a very short slide show on the twisted roots of country music by Eric Isaacson of Mississippi Records.  Eric will speak with steel pedal guitar musical accompaniment by the great Barry Walker!
