Charles Bradley: Soul of America

Series: Mississippi Records Music & Film

This screening is free for Hollywood Theatre members!

Mississippi Records, in partnership with the Portland Black Film Festival,  presents this documentary about the inspiring late in life rise of soul singer Charles Bradley.  Working for years as a James Brown imitator, Charles secretly yearned to let the world hear his own compositions and personality.  At the age of 62, Charles got his big chance to make it as a musician on his own terms.  The film follows Charles as he writes and records his first album - "No Time For Dreaming". (In Mississippi Records opinion, the best album made in the past 40 years)

Charles has a heart of gold and is about as inspiring a subject as a movie can have.  If you are feeling old, passed on by or defeated in anyway, just watching Charles go will fill you with hope - guaranteed.
