This December at the Hollywood Theatre, we’re proud to present the “Critic’s Choice” film series.
We
picked four prominent film critics in Portland, and let them each
choose an underrated movie that they love and want to screen for an
audience. The only rules were that it couldn’t be a well known title,
and it couldn’t be something that has screened recently in Portland.
Each screening will be introduced by the film critic who programmed it.

Bang the Drum Slowly
(1973)
The story of the friendship between a star pitcher (Michael
Moriarty), wise to the world, and a half-wit catcher (Robert De Niro),
as they cope with the catcher’s terminal illness through a baseball
season.
This screening coincides with the release of Shawn Levy’s new biography on Robert De Niro titled
DE NIRO: A LIFE.
