DR. STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB
(1964): A U.S. Air Force general Jack D. Ripper (Sterling Hayden), captivated by the paranoid delusion that the fluoridation of the American water supply is a Soviet plot to poison the American people, orders his underling Captain Lionel Mandrake (Peter Sellers) to initiate a nuclear strike against the Soviet Union. While one B-52 bomber mobilizes to carry out the attack, the President of the United States Merkin Muffley (Sellers again) and his advisers—including General "Buck" Turgidson (George C. Scott) and former Nazi Dr. Strangelove (Sellers in a third role)—work to recall the bombers in order to stop nuclear apocalypse.
