In the wake of the Eagle Creek fire of 2017, the filmmakers Trip Jennings and Ralph Bloemers took to the air and the ground to help Gorge communities make sense of the fire. They set up time-lapse and wildlife cameras in the burn, and visited the forests with elementary school kids from Cascade Locks.
The filmmakers were encouraged to pursue a feature film and, with seed money from National Geographic, they continued their journey of discovery across the United States and through five fire seasons including the massive fires of 2020 and 2021. They visited with top fire experts to make sense of the challenges we face, and the solutions.
The film is narrated by David Oyelowo (Emmy & Golden Globe Nominee), directed by Trip Jennings, produced and edited by Sara Quinn, and Executive Produced by Ralph Bloemers and was made with support from National Geographic, Film Action Oregon, Meyer Memorial Trust, Evergreen Fund, Patagonia, Lazar Foundation and the community. ELEMENTAL has been accepted to 22 film festivals, won numerous awards and it has been screened to sold out audiences across Oregon as part of a limited pre-release theatrical run sponsored by the American Red Cross. The film will be screened nationwide in the spring of 2023 and then go to streaming.
This special screening is hosted by 1000 Friends of Oregon, Trailkeepers of Oregon, Opal Creek Ancient Forest Center and Friends of the Columbia Gorge. Previous shows have SOLD OUT, so we encourage you to purchase your tickets in advance.
