Series: Mondo Trasho

This is part of Feminist March 2020

In conjunction with the Hollywood Theatre’s Feminist March programming, Mondo Trasho cues up a dark and tastelessly-twisted American fairy tale with FREEWAY!

Directed by Matthew Bright (FORBIDDEN ZONE), FREEWAY finds illiterate teenager Ramona (Reese Witherspoon) alone in LA after her mother (Amanda Plummer) is arrested. In search of her grandmother, Ramona hitches a ride with Bob (Kiefer Sutherland) who turns out to be not a big bad wolf but the notorious I-5 Killer. Despite shooting him several times, Ramona finds herself still pursed by Bob in a grim odyssey through a trial, prison, and all the way to grandmother’s house. Co-starring Brittany Murphy, Alanna Ubach, Brooke Shields, and with a score by Danny Elfman, FREEWAY isn’t your grandma’s Little Red Riding Hood.
