Series: Rebellion & Revolution: Insurgent Cinema

This film is part of our original film series REBELLION & REVOLUTION: Insurgent Cinema, a celebration of subversive cinema, guerilla-style filmmaking, and insurrection in film.

HATE (LA HAINE) (1995) When a young man named Abdel is arrested and beaten unconscious by police, a riot erupts in the notoriously violent suburbs outside of Paris. Three of the victim's peers, Vinz (Vincent Cassel), Said (Said Taghmaoui) and Hubert (Hubert Koundé), all live in a French housing project, and the film follows them for 24 hours after the riots. As tensions against the oppressive police force continue to rise, Vinz finds an officer's lost gun, and vows to kill a cop if Abdel dies in the hospital. Presented on a 35mm print!
