Il Sorpasso

This special screening is FREE for Hollywood Theatre Members! Portland critic and author Shawn Levy, whose latest book, “Dolce Vita Confidential,” tells the story of this amazing epoch in Roman cinema, culture and history, will introduce and discuss the film.

At the height of the Via Veneto era, when Rome was at its swankest and most enviable in the global mind, Dino Risi made this exhilarating comedy about a playboy and a bookworm on a weekend joy ride.  Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintingant (THE CONFORMIST, THE GREAT SILENCE) play the respective leads, driving wildly through various episodes meant to illuminate the Dolce Vita (Sweet Life) of the day.
