International Spectacular #1 2016

Friday, May 13 at 7:00pm | $15

Friday evening kicks off our three-night extravaganza of amazing international shorts. Selected from a pool of 1300 submissions, it's a variety show of contrasting styles and stories that offers something either profound or peculiar to delight nearly every taste.

Here's some of what you'll see: When a new invention rends the very fabric of reality, two young inventors and a frenemy spy must share a moped to confront mutant cows and stop the cataclysmic storm. Hell-bent on claiming her bingo victory, a manic retiree goes to hilariously extreme lengths to steal back the winning ball. A solo cellist coaxes the black sun to rise from a lake, while seagulls snatch his notes from the air and swimmers pay witness a charmingly surrealist dawn. A dapper centaur assists a hipster cryptozoologist whose truck has broken down while searching for the fabled cyclops girl. Twenty Portland animators face off in one epic dance battle!

(180 minutes, two short intermissions. Some mature themes.)

The Northwest Animation Festival (May 9-15) showcases visionary worlds of fantasy, unforgettable stories, and outlandish oddities from around the globe. See the year's best international shorts, selected from over 1300 submissions. Explore seven special topic screenings. Participate in conversations with filmmakers. Play at late night after-parties.
