Jen Kirkman is a stand-up comedian and writer. She’s the author of I Can Barely Take Care of Myself: Tales of a Happy Life Without Kids, which comes out in hardcover on April 16 through Simon & Schuster. She is a regular round-table guest on Chelsea Lately and was one of the stars of the hit spin-off ‘mockumentary’ show After Lately . Her debut stand-up album, 2006’s Self Help , was followed by 2011's Hail to the Freaks , which hit #13 on the Billboard Charts. She is also well known for her role as the narrator in the cult-hit series Drunk History from Funny or Die/HBO, which won the jury prize at Sundance Film Festival.
Jen has performed stand-up on Late Night with Craig Ferguson , Conan , John Oliver’s New York Stand-up Show on Comedy Central and more. Every month, she makes an appearance on Paul F. Tompkins’ podcast, The Pod F. Tompkast , which was hailed by Rolling Stone as “the best comedy podcast of the moment.” She has written for the NBC sitcom Perfect Couples and Disney’s hit cartoon Phineas and Ferb and was a cast member of Vh1’s sketch show Acceptable TV . She played many characters on the Cartoon Network’s Home Movies as well as Current TV’s political cartoon Super News!
Jen tours as a stand-up but is based in Los Angeles.
