John Sayles Retrospective

After getting his start writing scripts for Roger Corman in the 1970s, John Sayles went on to build a reputation as one of the country’s most principled and visionary filmmakers, writing and directing such films as Lone Star, Passion Fish, The Secret of Roan Inish, and Brother from Another Planet. Sayles' films focus on societal issues from an underdog perspective, using his precise camerawork and regular troupe of reliable actors to force the audience to confront these issues as well.

This course will explore the development of Sayles’ filmmaking voice and discuss the fundamentals of his films.

Movies will be screened at the Movie Madness Miniplex, followed by an instructor-led discussion. Classes will be held Tuesdays in November at 7:00pm, through 11/23. Proof of vaccination and masks are required for all students and instructors.

Tuition is $75 for the four-week class, $60 for members. Class size will be limited to 18.
