Marat/Sade

Series: Stage Meets Screen

Artists Repertory Theatre and its Stage Meets Screen series, in conjunction with their production of The Revolutionists – set on the eve of the Reign of Terror and the death of Marat – presents MARAT/SADE in 35mm!

Directed and adapted by Peter Brook from his renowned stage production, 1967’s MARAT/SADE takes us to Charenton Asylum in 1808 France where the infamous Marquis de Sade (Patrick Magee) directs his fellow inmates in a performance of the assassination of Marat (Ian Richardson) by Charlotte Corday (Glenda Jackson in her first major film role). But as the play unfolds, the mental patients become more and more unhinged as Sade’s manipulation and ulterior motives lead to an orgy of destruction.
