MMU One Credit: Mystical Sci-Fi Epic

Designed for those who are curious about Movie Madness University but reluctant to commit, our One Credit Classes give you a taste of MMU without having to take the full plunge. These one-night-only classes consist of a brief introduction from our instructor, plus a screening and discussion in our state-of-the-art Movie Madness Miniplex with your fellow film fans.

In this class, we will plunge into the mysteries and wonders of one of the greatest sci-fi cult classics of the new millennium. It’s a centuries-spanning epic about a conquistador seeking a hidden tree, a scientist studying brain tumors, and a grieving astronaut searching for solace in the embrace of a dying star. Despite being a flop for a major studio, the film became an object of fascination and obsession for many moviegoers—and a defining work for one of America’s most ambitious and eccentric auteurs.

This class will be taught by Willamette Week film critic Bennett Campbell Ferguson.
