Nosferatu (1922)

Series: Pipe Organ Pictures

Encore screening! The 1922 silent horror classic NOSFERATU inaugurates the Hollywood Theatre's newly refurbished pipe organ!

While previous events at the Hollywood have featured live organ accompaniment, the organ sound itself was digital, powered by large speakers backstage. Now, the sound will once again come from the theater's pipes. The Columbia River Theatre Organ Society has spent thousands of volunteer hours meticulously refurbishing the theater organ, tracking down vintage organ parts and pipes, restoring the original Hollywood organ chamber, and installing electrical lines, wind lines, and a mammoth 15hp organ blower in the basement.

Real pipes haven't been played at the Hollywood since 1930. Join us for this milestone moment of hearing and experiencing a real theatre pipe organ, once again accompanying silent films at the Hollywood Theatre.

One of the silent era's most influential masterpieces, NOFERATUS' eerie, gothic feel set the template for the horror films that followed. It's not just a great horror movie. It's a poem of horror, a symphony of dread, a film so rapt, mysterious, and weirdly lovely it haunts the mind long after it's over.

Hollywood Organist Dean Lemire will perform his original score for this epic film on the Beverly Ruth Nelson memorial organ.
