Mississippi Records and Church of Film Present: PSYCHIC SOUNDS 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW

For 10 years, the Psychic Sounds label & art collective worked in the shadows of Portland's music scene.  The group quietly went about creating unusual events such as "Fun Hog," a psychedelic party where everything from a Michael Jackson shrine to nine-hour performances of one song would be happening. The Psychic Sounds label arm also created some great archival music releases by the likes of renegade Sufi Mystic G.I. Gurdjieff, Ethiopian soul singer Tilahun Gessesse, experimental electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire, and legendary filmmaker & Voodoo initiate Maya Deren.

Mississippi Records founder Eric Issacson will introduce the event with a wild retrospective slideshow story. The night will feature a video collage curated from the Church of Film's deep vault and “light totems” by set designer James Devereux Tait. Live music will be provided with performances by the warped jazz of White Gourd, aquatic ambience by Inspired School of Astral Music, cacti-cloaked pedal steel waverings of Idaho Joe Windslow, a tribute to Portland punk of yore and the year of the Rat of today by The Tenses Trio (featuring Smegma members Ju Suk Reet Meate & Oblivia), a bizarre premiere by psych-rockers Lavender Flu, and avant-garde exotica ensemble Million Brazilians will feature their original line-up of for the first time in 8 years for this night only! Surprises are sure to happen. Limited edition prints & albums will be available for sale.
