Desperate Living

Series: Queer Horror

In celebration of John Waters’ 70th year on Earth and Pride month, Queer Horror resurrects DESPERATE LIVING! This special Pride edition hosted by Carla Rossi opens with a new short film by Portland’s own heir to Divine – Gula Delgatto of the Shorty Shorts Queer Film Festival !

DESPERATE LIVING (1977) The follow-up to Waters’ breakout classic PINK FLAMINGOS, this film finds Peggy Gravel (Mink Stole, aka the Meryl Streep of trash) on the run with her maid Grizelda (Jean Hill) after the accidental smothering death of her husband. The two stumble upon Mortville, a shantytown of criminals ruled by the insane Queen Carlotta (Edith Massey), and soon find themselves embroiled in a civil war fought with witches, cannibalism, lesbian prison sex, rabies, and a one-armed stripper named Flipper (Cookie Mueller). Featuring some of Waters’ most quotable lines, deviant characters, and his most bizarre plot ever, DESPERATE LIVING embodies the words QUEER HORROR with filthy, dirty perfection!
