Scream

Series: Queer Horror

The Hollywood Theatre’s bimonthly program QUEER HORROR takes its love for scary movies one step too far with SCREAM! Sponsored by Royale Brewing Co, this special Pride screening puts Portland’s premier drag clown Carla Rossi in Drew Barrymore’s shoes – and ribbed sweater – in a pre-show tribute to the ‘90s slasher classic!

Directed by Wes Craven and written by out queer screenwriter Kevin Williamson, 1996’s SCREAM follows final girl Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) as a ghost-faced killer knocks off her friends one by one – and the only way to survive this real-life scary movie is to know the rules! Featuring Courtney Cox, Rose McGowan, David Arquette, and Drew Barrymore in one of the most iconic opening scenes of all time, SCREAM completely altered the course of millennial horror – inspiring its own franchise, TV series, and decades of imitators – and continued a century-long legacy of queer filmmakers shaping the cultural consciousness of an entire film genre with gleeful wit and buckets of blood.
