Series: Cinema Classics
In tribute to the late Debbie Reynolds, Cinema Classics presents her iconic film SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN in 35mm! The Sunday screening is free for Hollywood Theatre members.
SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN (1952): During Hollywood’s silent movie era, Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) rises from humble hoofer and catch-all stuntman to stardom as a leading man opposite Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). Lina, vapid as she is beautiful, believes the fan magazine drivel that she and Don are in love and engaged to be married. While Don chafes under the strain of a showmance with Lina, he falls in love with aspiring actress Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds). At the same time, sound technology is introduced to the movie industry, and “talkies” become all the rage. For the screen team of Lockwood and Lamont, the transition to sound is a rocky one, as Lina sends audiences into hysterics with her shrill, grating accent...until the studio decides to use Kathy Selden to dub her voice.
