The Best of the Portland 48 Hour Film Project

The Best of the Portland 48 Hour Film Project screens Monday, August 27 th at 7:30 PM. The best 14 films from this year’s 56 entries will be put together for this once-in-a-lifetime special event. This is the ONLY opportunity to see these films together on the big screen.

At the end of the evening we will be announcing the various winners for 2012, including the "Best of Portland". The winning team will screen at Filmapalooza, get a trophy and the chance to win $5,000. 12 films from the 2012 tour will also screen at the Cannes Film Fest.

From August 10 th to August 12 th , 56 teams from the Greater Portland area had just 48 hours to write, shoot and edit their short films. On Friday, August 10 th, they drew their genres from the cruel hat of fate and received these required elements to use in their films.

CHARACTER: Gabriel or Gloria Wardell: Instructor

PROP: An iron

LINE: “It takes one to know one”

Sunday evening, exhausted teams rushed back to the Jupiter Hotel drop-off point clutching their finished films and counted down as last minute entrants raced in to beat the clock, some with only seconds to spare!

Our Mission

The 48 Hour Film Project's mission is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. Through its festival/competition, the Project encourages filmmakers and would-be filmmakers to get out there and make movies. The tight deadline of 48 hours puts the focus squarely on the filmmakers—emphasizing creativity and teamwork skills. While the time limit places an unusual restriction on the filmmakers, it is also liberating by putting an emphasis on "doing" instead of "talking."
