The Devils

The only known 35mm print of the X-Rated version of Ken Russell’s daring, controversial and mind-bending masterpiece! This film has long only been available on bootleg, poor-quality video. Not to be missed in this incredibly rare big screen appearance!

THE DEVILS (1971) In 17th-century France, Father Urbain Grandier (Oliver Reed) seeks to protect the city of Loudun from the corrupt establishment of Cardinal Richelieu. Hysteria occurs within the city when he is accused of witchcraft by a sexually repressed nun (Vanessa Redgrave). Along the way, director Ken Russell attempts to push every button and consistently succeeds! After watching the film upon it’s release, Roger Ebert famously said “We live in a time of violence, and it is only by looking in the mouth of the Devil that we can examine his teeth. It took courage for me to go see this film, just like it took courage for Ken Russell to make it”.
