The Hobbit

Series: Re-Run Theater

Long before Peter Jackson’s version, the prolific animation team of Arthur Rankin Jr. and Jules Bass (FROSTY THE SNOWMAN, YEAR WITHOUT A SANTA CLAUS, etc.) were the first to bring J.R.R. Tolkien’s mystical world of Middle Earth to life.

Far more faithful to the book, we follow Bilbo Baggins as he has an unexpected party at his humble home, hosting the enigmatic wizard Gandalf and twelve dwarves. They recruit him in their quest to liberate the distant Lonely Mountain from the evil dragon Smaug. Their journey takes them far away across treacherous mountains and deadly forests where they encounter hideous trolls, warrior goblins, giant spiders, and magical elves.

Along the way, Bilbo will discover a mysterious ring and with it, one of the most sinister secrets of Middle Earth.

Featuring the vocal talents of John Huston, Otto Preminger, and Paul Frees.
