The Last Waltz

Series: Sonic Cinema

On Thanksgiving eve Sonic Cinema presents a 35mm print of Martin Scorsese's THE LAST WALTZ for the 40th anniversary of this historic concert!

It Started as a Concert. It Became a Celebration. Now it's a Legend.

Seventeen years after joining forces as the backing band for rockabilly cult hero Ronnie Hawkins, Canadian roots rockers The Band call it quits with a lavish farewell Thanksgiving show at San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom on Nov. 25, 1976. Filmed by Martin Scorsese, this documentary features standout performances by rock legends such as Bob Dylan , Van Morrison , Eric Clapton , Neil Young , Joni Mitchell and Muddy Waters , as well as interviews tracing the group's history and discussing road life.

Part of our Sonic Cinema series which presents the best in new and classic music documentaries on the big screen (with big sound!) A feast for the eyes and ears, the festival explores a wide range of musical artists, genres and styles.

Sonic Cinema is sponsored by Music Millenium, XRAYFM and Lagunitas Brewing.
