Series: Queer Horror

This is part of Feminist March 2020

The Hollywood Theatre celebrates five years of QUEER HORROR with Polish killer mermaid musical THE LURE! Sponsored by Double Mountain Brewery and Cidery, Finger Bang Nail Salon, and Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home, this fifth anniversary Feminist March screening is hosted by Portland’s premier drag clown Carla Rossi and opens with an all-musical preshow!

Directed by Agnieszka Smoczynska and featuring music by Barbara & Zuzanna Wronska, THE LURE chronicles Silver and Golden (Marta Mazurek & Michalina Olszanska), two man-eating mermaids who find themselves adopted by a nightclub singer (Kinga Preis) and brought on as entertainment at the sleaziest cabaret in 1980s Warsaw.

But when one of them falls in love with a human man, it won’t just be their victims who find themselves ripped apart. Based partially on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid” and the life stories of its female creative team, THE LURE is a surreal, frenetic, and gorgeously gory trip into a queer world afloat on rocking techno waves.
