The Velvet Vampire

Series: Wyrd War Presents!

Wyrd War presents pioneering filmmaker Stephanie Rothman’s bizarre reimagining of the vampire mythos on the big screen for one night only!

THE VELVET VAMPIRE cleverly subverts the horror tropes popularized by Universal and Hammer Studios with a liberated bloodsucking matriarch named Diane LeFanu (Celeste Yarnell), who hunts her prey across the American desert in a dune buggy in full light of day. Michael Blodgett and Sherry Miles play a bumbling young couple seduced to the remote lair of the titular fiend, where they slowly begin to realize that they are the main course in more ways than one!

Rothman’s beautiful, surreal, and distinct directorial style paved the way for later experimental vampire films such as Bill Gunn’s GANJA & HESS and George Romero’s MARTIN, and has re-emerged in recent years to be canonized as a boldly comedic cult classic.
