Tlatelolco
is set in a city of great heroes and villains; it is also a love story about two students from different social backgrounds. In 1968, as the first “third world” country to host the Olympic Games, México is under a magnifying glass. Tensions increase as authorities strive to embellish the city and give the world an image of stability while a student movement confronts the government with riots and demonstrations.
Characters converge and are forced to deal with conflicting points of view while emotions run high and surprises emerge. This is an epic love story set during a historical event that continues to generate controversy.
About the Director
Carlos Bolado was born in Veracruz, Mexico, and has been a filmmaker since he was a teenager. He studied Sociology at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico (UNAM), a degree that he combined with Cinematography studies at Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (CUEC) in the same university.
He served as editor for more than eleven feature films, including

), and as editing advisor for films such as
Amores Perros (Love's a Bitch), La Habitación Azul

) (1999), received numerous awards including the “National Critic’s Award” at the Guadalajara Film Festival in 1999 and the “Jury Award for Best Film” at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival that same year. Bolado’s second project was the documentary film

about Palestinian and Israeli children living in Jerusalem.
Promises
earned an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary and two Emmys as well as awards at more than 50 festivals around the world. In 2012, Bolado released a film about the investigation into the assassination of Mexico’s 1994 presidential candidate, Luis Donaldo Colosio.

About the Musicians
Inspired by Mexican folklore and the Latin American bolero, Joaquin Lopez delivers a world of musical nostalgia and elegant melancholia with simple lush ballads and melodies underscored by the acoustic beauty of the harp, played by Antonio Centurion.
Edna Vazquez sings with passion, bringing a traditional touch and feeling from Mexico’s folklore, mixed with her own compositions that are sprinkled with a variety of Latin American musical genres. With her guests, Vazquez and her quartet will share intimate trovas and huapangos and rock us with the acoustic sounds of “No Passengers.”

Estamos dedicados a mostrar perspectivas de la cultura latinoamericana a través de una exploración anual de cine, lo que nos permite aumentar su visibilidad en Portland. Los invitamos al estreno en Portland de la película mexicana Tlalelolco, Verano del 68. La función contara con la presencia del director mexicano Carlos Bolado quien contestara las preguntas de la audiencia.
Al término de la función Edna Vázquez y Joaquín López ofrecerán un concierto en vivo en donde harán gala de sus talentos como compositores e intérpretes. Se trata de un evento para recaudar fondos para una nueva etapa del PDXLAFF que en el 2014 iniciara presentaciones mensuales en el Hollywood Theatre.
El costo de los boletos es de 15 dólares. Incluye la presentación de la película, el concierto, y postres de Cocina Cultura. Adicionalmente los primeros cien asistentes recibirán un boleto (Burrito Buck) que se puede canjear en cualquiera de los restaurantes de Chipotle por un burrito, ensalada o tacos con un valor comercial de 8 dólares.
Tlateloco es una historia en una ciudad con grandes héroes y villanos; también una historia de amor entre dos estudiantes de distintos estratos sociales. Propuesto como el primer país del tercer mundo en ser anfitrión de los Juegos Olímpicos, México se encuentra bajo la mirada microscópica del resto del mundo. La tensión aumenta. El gobierno se esmera por embellecer la ciudad y por darle al mundo una imagen de estabilidad, pero la Capital está más inquieta que nunca.
El Movimiento Estudiantil confronta al gobierno con marchas y plantones. En este contexto, nuestros personajes convergen desde distintos estratos sociales y desde distintas posiciones del entorno, haciendo que momento a momento fluyan las emociones y la sorpresa de lo inesperado. Una historia de amor épico dentro de un marco histórico que sigue generando controversia.
Acerca de Carlos Bolado
Nació en el estado de Veracruz, México. Estudió Sociología y Cinematografía en el Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos (UNAM-CUEC). Director de 7 largometrajes, ha realizado 3 Documentales y 10 Series de Televisión.
Ha sido asesor del Montaje de numerosas películas Editor de más de 11 largometrajes. En Junio del 20012 estrenó una película de Ficción sobre la investigación del Atentado a el Candidato Presidencial en 1994, Luis Donaldo Colosio con el titulo de ¨Colosio, el Asesinato¨.
Y que se convirtió en la Película más taquillera del 2012.
Ha sido nominado al Oscar Ganador de 2 Emys y siete Arieles y de numerosos festivales de Cine Académicamente Carlos Bolado, frecuentemente es solicitado y ha impartido diversas conferencias y clases en Universidades y Centros Culturales en Brasil, España, Argentina, Australia, Estados Unidos, Francia México y el Medio Oriente.
