This screening is programmed by Ursula K. Leguin and presented in partnership with Portland Playhouse and Hand2Mouth Theatre in anticipation of their upcoming production of
The Left Hand of Darkness.
When we asked Ursula K. Le Guin what film she would choose as a counterpoint to
The Left Hand of Darkness
, her pick was Sally Potter’s 1992 film adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s
Orlando
. Join us for a special screening of this sumptuous cinematic tapestry, whose eponymous protagonist, played by the mesmerizing Tilda Swinton, honors the constraints of neither time nor gender. The film, Portland Playhouse’s first collaboration with the legendary Hollywood Theatre, will be preceded by a special welcome from Portland Playhouse Artistic Director Brian Weaver and a live preview of music from the production
The Left Hand of Darkness
by composer Jana Crenshaw.
