West Side Story: A Cinema Classic

On 35mm This screening is a celebration of the massive improvements we’ve recently made to the Hollywood Theatre. The biggest changes: we’ve installed new seats, a new 50 foot screen, and new sound systems. We also have a new paint job, we’ve hung new curtains, have a refurbished stage, and installed tables between the rows of seats in our upstairs theaters. West Side Story (1961) The Oscar-winning romantic musical adaptation of Romeo and Juliette. The feuding families become two warring New York City gangs: the white Jets, led by Riff, and the Puerto Rican Sharks, led by Bernardo. Their hatred escalates to a point where neither can coexist with any form of understanding. But when Riff’s best friend Tony (Richard Beymer) and Bernardo’s younger sister Maria (Natalie Wood) meet at a dance, no one can do anything to stop their love. Winner of 10 Academy Awards!
