Written and directed by Kelly Reichardt, CERTAIN WOMEN (2016) follows four women navigating the horrors of their daily lives. Laura (Laura Dern) is a lawyer who finds herself negotiating both workplace misogyny and a hostage situation; Gina (Michelle Williams) tries to build a house, despite the men in her life; and Jamie (Lily Gladstone) is a lonely young ranch hand who becomes smitten with young lawyer and community college instructor Beth (Kristin Stewart). Simultaneously understated and as precariously alive as its Montana landscape, thanks in part to its powerhouse performances—including Gladstone's, well before her award-winning turn in KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON—CERTAIN WOMEN is among Reichardt's finest work.
