Westerns in Hollywood were going out of style until John Ford’s STAGECOACH revived and elevated the genre. Garnering seven Academy Award nominations, Ford’s masterpiece transformed a Western into a cinematic art form as well as a relatively unknown John Wayne into an iconic leading man.
In this class, we’ll explore John Ford’s filmmaking techniques (which inspired a young Orson Welles) including his lean editing style and exquisite cinematography.
This class will be presented by Jenny Lee who is currently teaching MMU’s Intro to Modern Korean Cinema.
The film will be screened at the Movie Madness Miniplex, followed by an instructor-led discussion.
Class size will be limited to 18.
