Mondo Trasho welcomes POISON IVY to Feminist March! When New Line Cinema asked filmmaker Katt Shea (who first exploded onto the scene with her films produced by Roger Corman) for a "teenage FATAL ATTRACTION," there was no way of knowing the cultural landmine it would set off. Written and directed by Shea, POISON IVY (1992) stars a never-better Drew Barrymore as the titular Ivy who befriends the sheltered Sylvie (Sara Gilbert) and ingratiates herself with her new friend's family to tragic ends. Forever polarizing audiences yet inspiring dozens of films to come (think CRUEL INTENTIONS and JENNIFER'S BODY), POISON IVY oozes with confidence and controversy—not to mention murder, incest, alcoholism, suicide, and lesbianism!
