SPACES OF EXCEPTION

SPACES OF EXCEPTION
SPACES OF EXCEPTION (2018) is a documentary resulting from the long-term multimedia project “The Native and the Refugee," profiling the American Indian reservation in the United States alongside the Palestinian refugee camp in the Middle East. The film explores these spaces as sites of resilience and cultural transmission, while connecting experiences of attempted genocide and erasure across settler colonial regimes. The documentary was filmed from 2014-2017 in Arizona, New Mexico, New York, and South Dakota in the United States as well as in Lebanon and the West Bank.

“These portraits are an attempt to understand the land—its memory and divisions—and to understand the conditions for life, community, and sovereignty.”
