THE SWIMMER in 35mm
For our September Cinema Classics screening, we’re proud to present THE SWIMMER on 35mm! The screening on September 7th is free for Hollywood Theatre Members!

THE SWIMMER (1968) Working for big-time producer Sam Spiegel, director Frank Perry and screenwriter Eleanor Perry expanded upon John Cheever’s 1964 short story to follow Ned Merrill, portrayed by Burt Lancaster in a piercing character study, on a whimsical, increasingly metaphysical journey home via the backyard swimming pools of suburban Connecticut.  As Merrill wades through a series of unnerving encounters with women, a steadily darkening portrait of American dreams deferred begins to emerge.  With music by Marvin Hamlisch and featuring Janice Rule, Kim Hunter, and Joan Rivers in her acting debut.
Director: Frank Perry
Run time: 95 mins
Format: 35mm
