What is Cinematography?

What is Cinematography?

Cinematographers are responsible for the look of a movie—but what does that mean, exactly? In this two-hour Movie Madness University class, we’ll dig deep into this key role and introduce practical vocabulary related to the field of cinematography. We’ll consider examples from classic and contemporary films and dissect why cinematographers made the choices they did. Students will leave with a greater appreciation for this important role and a deeper understanding of the visual language of film.

This class will be taught by MMU lead instructor Kia Anne Geraths, a filmmaker and educator. Her previous classes include the Cult Horror series, Intro to Varda, Science Fiction B-movies, and more.

Class size will be limited to 18.
