What is Costume?

What is Costume?
Fabulous frocks and thrilling threads - call them what you will, costume is an important part of the visual language of film.

In this 2-hour class, we’ll learn a bit about the history of film costume and the role of the costume designer. Using case studies from contemporary, sci-fi/fantasy and period films, we’ll learn how costume creates character, and how costume design is so much more than just putting clothes on people.

Adopting the penchant of old Hollywood designers for using a single name, your instructor for this course will be De, MMU instructor, and former studio production archives manager who has been fortunate enough to have had a part in preserving the legacy of film costume.

Class size will be limited to 18.
