LIVES WITH FLAVOR, FROM EARTH TO THE MICHELIN STAR; CARLOS GAYTAN / VIDAS CON SABOR
Directors: Pablo Gasca Gollás and Ruth Zachs Babani

Carlos Gaytan is a Mexican hero who achieved the “American dream.” His story begins in the mountains of Guerrero in a humble home in conditions of extreme poverty. Desperate, he immigrates illegally to the US in search of a better life. He never imagined that his destiny was to become the first Latin American chef to receive the coveted Michelin star.

MALINTZÍN, THE STORY OF AN ENIGMA / MALINTZÍN, LA HISTORIA DE UN ENIGMA
Director: Fernando Gonzalez-Sitges

MALINTZÍN, THE STORY OF AN ENIGMA seeks to highlight the figure of Doña Marina, Malintzin, Malinche, a fundamental character in the conquest and in the creation of miscegenation in Mexico. Involuntary ally and then the lover of Hernán Cortés, her image has been stigmatized and converted over the centuries; it is a contrasting symbol. In the popular culture of Mexico, an image of a traitor was forged from her that even caused the term “malinchismo” to be coined as a synonym for treason.
