Sweet Charity

For our July Cinema Classics, we’re proud to present SWEET CHARITY.  The screening on July 13th is free for Hollywood Theatre Members!

SWEET CHARITY (1969) Fosse's Broadway smash — a musical version of Fellini's NIGHTS OF CABIRIA — became his feature film debut, with Shirley MacLaine taking Gwen Verdon's stage role of Charity Hope Valentine, the dancehall hostess with a heart of gold. Fosse transfers his Tony-winning choreography to the screen, with highlights including "There's Got to Be Something Better Than This" — performed by MacLaine, Chita Rivera and Paula Kelly on a Manhattan rooftop — "Big Spender," "If They Could See Me Now," and Fossian takeoffs on chic disco dances and psychedelia. With Sammy Davis Jr., Ricardo Montalbán and a screenplay by Neil Simon.

Director: Bob Fosse
