The first Internet Cat Video Festival (#catvidfest) gathered over 10,000 people to the Walker Art Center to participate in a social experiment, testing the boundaries of online communities and crowd-sourced content. Emerging from the Walker’s Open Field initiative the festival attracted attention from local, national, and international audiences and press and raised public debate around the role of museums in an internet culture. On June 21st and 22nd #catvidfest will be restaged at Portland’s Hollywood Theatre in partnership with the Theatre’s “Future So Bright” project.
About Future So Bright (“FSB”):
FSB serves to explore how internet culture is helping to inform new models for the presentation of cinema, encouraging participatory experiences with the ultimate goal of expanding the traditional film-going ritual, and facilitating the emergence of a modern movie theater and cultural hub.
