Classic Black Cinema Spotlight
Oregon Music Hall Of Fame inductee Vursatyl The Great created Classic Black Cinema Spotlight to celebrate the richness, excellence, and cultural impact of Black films that speak deeply to the African-American experience many of which never received the formal recognition they deserved. By bringing these movies back to the big screen, the series invites audiences to experience them collectively once again, honoring the actors, filmmakers, and stories that shaped generations despite being overlooked by major award institutions. In a city and state where Black communities are underrepresented, this series serves as both a cultural affirmation and an open invitation centering Black voices while welcoming everyone to recognize, uplift, and celebrate Black cinematic excellence. This spotlight is the first step toward a broader vision of community celebration, remembrance, and pride through film.
