On This Day
There’s the history of cinema and then there’s the history in cinema. This series is devoted to the latter. ON THIS DAY celebrates and honors significant dates in cinema’s imagined history by scheduling screenings that coincide with the action.
We began by watching 1980’s THE FOG on April 21st, the same day hundred year-old undead fog pirates sought their revenge on the citizens of Antonio Bay.
Then we fell in love with Jesse and Celine on June 16th with BEFORE SUNRISE.
After that we hung-out in Bed-Stuy for DO THE RIGHT THING day on August 5th.
On February 24th we memorialized Laura Palmer’s death in TWIN PEAKS FIRE WALK WITH ME.
School was out for summer on May 28th as we watched DAZED AND CONFUSED.
On October 30th Eric Draven died and THE CROW was born.
Our next screening is on New Years Eve to commemorate the tragic adventure of THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE.
Then on January 29th we’ll be celebrating Truman Burbank’s birthday (and the date the first episode of his show aired) with THE TRUMAN SHOW.
