A down-on-his-luck guy learns things can always get worse when he dies in a car accident and learns he must battle forces of darkness in purgatory. Philip Cook’s endlessly creative barrage of primitive CGI sets and unique monsters makes it one of the most unforgettable films you’ll ever experience. Despiser is a pedal-to-the-metal hallucinogenic fever-dream full to the brim with non-stop violence, wacky religious mythology and every action movie trope under the rainbow, offering an ultra-detailed vision of Purgatory unlike anything you have ever seen. This sci-fi horror action film is a guaranteed crowd pleaser, especially for fans of the Mind’s Eye films and DIY filmmaking a la Neil Breen, Damon Packard, and late Ted V. Mikels.
Despiser is one of the great late VHS/early DVD direct-to-video classics, never screened in theaters… until now! This is the first time this film has ever played in a theater on the west coast.
