FEAR CITY
Wyrd War brings cult director Abel Ferrara’s neo-noir FEAR CITY (1985) to the big screen for one night only on the 40th anniversary of its North American theatrical release!

An emotionally damaged ex-boxer and his dubious talent agent business partner attempt to track down a psychopath who is targeting nightclub dancers while a hardboiled detective assigned to the case pursues them through New York City’s sleazy small time criminal underground. Filmed on location in Times Square during the Big Apple’s most corrupt and bankrupt era, FEAR CITY was Ferrara’s gritty, neon-drenched attempt to crossover into mainstream cinema with an accessible crime thriller featuring an all-star cast including Academy Award nominees Melanie Griffith, Tom Berenger and Michael V. Gazzo alongside genre favorites Rae Dawn Chong, Billy Dee Williams and Jack Scalia. Unfortunately, the result was so violent, hypersexualized and morally ambiguous that 20th Century Fox promptly sold it to Aquarius Releasing where it withered on the vine of independent film obscurity. Until now!

Come for David Johansen’s aerobic theme song (“New York Dolls!”). Stay for Melanie Griffith’s nearly two minute strip tease. And the full blown martial arts confrontation with a nameless psycho killer. “Feels like it’s gonna be good this time…”
