Wyrd War proudly presents the West Coast theatrical premiere of JAWBREAKER (2025), the highly anticipated new documentary from directors Tomas Haglund and Oskar Sjödin that tells the unlikely story of Sweden’s seminal hardcore punk band Anti Cimex.
Anti Cimex, who took their name from a Swedish pest control company (literally: against bed bugs), were formed in 1981 and went through a series of personnel changes during their tumultuous 12-year trajectory from the medieval streets of Skövde, Sweden to international crust punk infamy and their inevitable dissolution in 1993. The band’s urgent and abrasive style, which took influence from extreme heavy metal and England’s d-beat pioneers Discharge, has become the blistering gold standard for music as warning. From their raw debut EP Anarkist Attack through their final live documentations, Anti Cimex’s cultural influence and cult following continues to grow more than 30 years later. JAWBREAKER offers a surprisingly candid and contemplative portrait of the musicians behind the noise that peels back the studded leather from the band’s elusive mystique to expose the heart, soul, friendships and struggles of Sweden’s loudest and drunkest export.
