In the whimsical 1991 romantic comedy L.A. STORY, Steve Martin stars as
Harris K. Telemacher, a wacky weatherman navigating the absurdity of Los
Angeles life—where earthquakes barely register, kissing hello is a
requirement at hard to get brunch reservations, and freeway signs offer
cryptic life advice. Stuck in a dud of a relationship (Marilu Henner in
an excellent beehive ‘do), Harris finds himself enchanted by a
sharp-witted British journalist (Victoria Tennant) who shakes up his
world. With a mix of surreal humor, Shakespearean nods, Sarah Jessica
Parker as SanDeE*, and the mix of 80s blending into 90s fashion, this
love letter to L.A. delivers both satire and sincerity in equal measure.
