Wyrd War proudly welcomes Italian composer Fabio Frizzi back to the Hollywood Theatre for the first time in five years on Friday September 20 to perform his legendary score for THE BEYOND (1981) live on stage, followed by a full concert of his greatest cinematic (de)compositions!
Widely hailed as controversial filmmaker Lucio Fulci’s quintessential Southern Gothic masterpiece, THE BEYOND (1981) is a hallucinatory descent into supernatural violence that director Tobe Hooper once enthusiastically praised as, “Unrelenting excitement, a truly original haunted house thriller.” When a young New Yorker (Catriona MacColl as Liza Merrill) inherits an old hotel in New Orleans, she sets in motion a series of inexplicable events that put her in contact with a helpful local doctor (David Warbeck as John McCabe) and a mysterious blind woman (Cinzia Monreale as Emily) who warns them that the property is built over one of the seven gates of hell. Nodding at times to THE SENTINEL (1977) and THE SHINING (1980), THE BEYOND is a ferocious low budget exercise in 80s fever-dream excess that is propelled by one of the most beautiful and haunting scores in horror movie history! “…And you will face the sea of darkness, and all therein that may be explored.”
As part of Wyrd War’s ongoing 10 Year Anniversary festivities, Fabio Frizzi will be performing live scores to Fulci’s Italian horror classics THE BEYOND (1981) on Friday September 20 and ZOMBIE (1979) on Saturday September 21.
