Vault of Horror cues up THE MCPHERSON TAPE (1989)! This screening is free for members. One of the earliest found footage horror films (after 1980's CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST, among others), THE MCPHERSON TAPE purportedly presents some of the strongest evidence for extraterrestrial life caught on film. Shot as home video of a five-year-old's birthday party in 1983, the Van Heese family—grandma and all—soon finds themselves in a standoff after an alien spacecraft lands in the surrounding woods. Presented in a new digital restoration from AGFA, and later remade by the director himself for FOX TV's similarly shocking ALIEN ABDUCTION: INCIDENT IN LAKE COUNTY (1998), THE MCPHERSON TAPE is a fun and remarkably effective entry in the alien abduction and found footage genres.
Director: Dean Alioto
