SHANGHAI EXPRESS (1932): Hui Fei (Anna May Wong) and Shanghai Lily (Marlene Dietrich) are among a group of train passengers, which include an opium dealer, a Christian missionary, a gambler, and a boarding-house keeper, that are being held hostage by a ruthless warlord amidst the Chinese Revolution. As well as being superbly directed by Josef von Sternberg, Lee Garmes won an Academy Award for his brilliant and breathtaking cinematography. Co-starring Warner Oland, Clive Brook, and Eugene Pallette.
