FULL METAL JACKET
(1987):
Stanley Kubrick's take on the Vietnam War follows Private Davis
(Matthew Modine), quickly christened "Joker" by his foul-mouthed drill
sergeant (R. Lee Ermey), and Private Lawrence (Vincent D'Onofrio),
nicknamed "Gomer Pyle," as they endure the rigors of basic training.
Though Pyle takes a frightening detour, Joker graduates to the Marine
Corps and is sent to Vietnam as a journalist, covering - and eventually
participating in - the bloody Battle of Hué.
About Leon Vitali: After playing Lord Bullingdon in BARRY LYNDON, Leon
Vitali walked away from a promising acting career to spend the next 20
years working as Stanley Kubrick's assistant. Vitali worked closely with
the legendary director, often working 18 to 24 hour days to help
complete THE SHINING, FULL METAL JACKET, and EYES WIDE
SHUT.
